Hi, I’m Jacob - Data Analyst/Scientist by trade and learner by necessity, (and choice)! I’ve been in the field for about 4 years and presently, I work for a premarket startup in the medical device industry. I am halfway through my master’s degree in data science, chipping away at that part-time. I’m endlessly curious about the world around me, which as it turns out, can be a useful skill in my line of work!
Beyond an obvious interest in data science and tech in general, I have a deep-seated fascination with history. It would surprise me if the subject doesn’t manage to squeeze its way into my writing here at some point. I also enjoy music and am a bit of an amateur audiophile. I love reading (history and horror!) and treasure spending time with my wife, Jessica, and my dog and cat!

This blog/site/whatever you want to call it serves a few purposes:
- It serves as a way for me to share more about the subject, which I find fascinating as it intersects with many other disciplines. Writing about it will help me process and incorporate the information myself.
- I want to share some of the work that I do for my graduate courses. It takes time and effort I have to carve out of my personal and professional life, and it makes sense to get some mileage out of it!
- I’ve been itching to write more. Writing is a means to an end in my day-to-day, and that doesn’t provide much of an opportunity to improve the way I communicate. I’m hoping this flexes that creative expression muscle and helps me to convey complex material a little better.
This site is not intended to be a demonstration of my expertise, shameless self-promotion, or fluff for a CV. I intend for it to reflect me ‘showing my work’, or at least to represent a breadcrumb trail of parts of my own learning journey.

For those that are curious, this website is a static site built using Jekyll on Ruby. The site is based on Artem Sheludko’s theme, Joseph. I’ve made some minor tweaks for my own needs and all content is managed using markdown and HTML templates!
